Yoga
All three-year-old and four-year-old classes at the
Roslyn Trinity Co-op complete a series of yoga
sessions led by Ms. Hseih-Vigilis, from Little Lotus
Yoga in Port Washington. Yoga for children focuses on
playfully introducing poses, breathing and
relaxation techniques. In addition to strengthening a
child's physical skills and increasing a child's body
awareness, yoga enhances coordination, focus,
self-esteem, and teaches ways to cope with stress.
Not only do the children greatly benefit from
the creative and fun annual program, the Co-op
teachers have also been given tools to incorporate
yoga into their classrooms throughout the year.

Alvin Ailey
Children from the Roslyn Trinity Co-op stretch,
slither, sashay, twist and twirl during the creative
movement and dance program taught by professionals
from the Alvin Ailey School in Manhattan. The Alvin
Ailey School encourages children to "think creatively
and listen attentively while they develop rhythmic
awareness and learn the healthy habit of exercising at
an early age." During the six-week program, the
children explore a wide variety of activities that
enhance gross motor development, strengthen balance
and coordination, develop body and spatial awareness,
and increase vocabulary, all while enhancing their
self-esteem.

Mail Day
Before Valentine's Day, the children at the Co-op
enjoy a visit from Letter Carrier Robert D. Moux of
the Roslyn Post Office. In preparation for the visit,
the children set up a post office in their classroom
and purchase a stamp for their individual valentines,
which are mailed home to their families. As Robert
makes his way to each classroom, the children gather
around him to learn about his job as a letter carrier
and to touch his heavy mailbag. The students are
engaged as they learn how the mail travels all around
the world.

Safety and Wellness Visitors
The Roslyn Trinity Cooperative Day School recognizes
the importance of teaching preschoolers about the
necessity of safety and wellness in their daily
lives. Annual visitors to the Co-op include a
pediatric dentist, a firefighter and a health
professional who demonstrates the importance of proper
hand washing.
